On the way to 100

Once a year there is an online challenge to make something each day for 100 days. This year it began on April 3, and is due to end early next month. I have joined in for a number of years because I actually work in elements of 100 as a personal challenge during the whole year. Previously the object of my creativity has been some form of stitching or art, but this year I’ve concentrated on crochet.

Other projects have continued, but each day I’ve made a simple granny square. So far I’ve used simple short scraps to make them, and it’s proving a wonderful way of using up those little pieces that are too long to throw away, but too short to use on a larger project. Here’s a small selection of those I’ve completed so far.

I’m looking forward to completing the 100, we are on the ‘downhill’ now! You can see a few more here. I’ll join them all with a single colour and I’m just off to order that from Deramores while the yarn is on Special Offer!

What are you all up to? Is it too hot to crochet? I’d love to know what you are doing.

Another side of me ;)

This piece of stitched strips is a sample piece from a long finished cushion cover. All the strips are from my hand dyed fabric, and I have to admit that it’s a technique I love. It’s been hiding in a drawer since …. well, I don’t know when …

Today I found a home for it. I’m sending it to a friend in Manchester who will incorporate it into one of her charity quilts. Maybe I’ll return to the technique one day, it’s very satisfying to use small pieces of fabric to create larger ones. For the time being, though, it’s crochet …

A slow Sunday

August is slowly slipping away. Autumn will be with us before we know it.

I love these flowers, but when they come in profusion it’s a sure sign that summer is nearing its end. This year, however, they have been flowering since early June. Very strange!

Maybe one day I’ll make a blanket around these colours. Not yet, though. I’ve made a start on the Spirit of August and it’s gone well so far.

Each block has two colours and a border. I’ve used this block before. If you would like to know how it’s made this post here has cursory instructions.

Progress from now on will be slow. September, October and November are very busy with family stuff so crochet will have to take a very ‘back seat’. Even the temperature blanket may have to wait, but my records will continue.

I’m tired! In fact, at times I feel almost exhausted, but that passes. I’ll get a break soon, and I’ll let you know if I manage to sneak in a little crochet

You may not know

… that in a previous life I dyed!

Textiles have been my life in many shapes and forms for many years. Apart from dyeing I have taught many different techniques.

I'm putting together some bundles for a class on a couple of weeks, but am offering some here.

Bundles of 3 pieces of viscose felt. Normally £5 each, offered for £10 plus postage. All bundles are different. Please leave a comment if you are interested and I will get in touch. There are several bundles available and payment can be made via PayPal.

Sunshine, flowers …

… Sea, sand and beach huts!

The First block for the Spirit of July blanket has all these elements!

It truly is a block for summer! Can’t wait to see the finished blanket!

One down – 11 to go 🙂

By the way – don’t forget that August 15th is Granny Square Day on Instagram. I’ll be posting a few, will you? Find me at https://www.instagram.com/crochetalongwithnuvofelt/ and don’t forget to drop in and like my very new Facebook Page.

C’est finis!

Another month is over! August has begun!!

I'm a little behind with the Spirit of the Month blankets – but that's fine. I chose not to start July until the month was finished because I didn't want to be as frustrated with quantities as I was with the Spirit of April! So, now that I'm about to start July,  here is June!

I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. Twelve squares and 22 colours.

The last colour to be added was Copper, so that's what I used for  joining.

What do you think?

It's the first one I've made with squares that match! Like the May blanket, it only has a very simple border. I'll post the colours another day.

July, here we come!
