A little tutorial on  using some of those ends of yarn that are trimmed after all that sewing in!

You will need

A sewing machine set to ordinary zigzag or straight stitch
A bag of yarny bits
Some water-soluble stabiliser* (leave a comment below if you have trouble sourcing that)
Machine thread
Hand stitching threads (optional – see method)
A few cards
Some Japanese paper

*I used a product called SoluWEB. It is not a conventional water-soluble – very light – and disappears almost instantly.

You will also need scissors and a small bowl to hold water.

 

1 Cut a piece of watersoluble fabric approx 18 x 9 inches
1 Cut a piece of watersoluble fabric approx 18 x 9 inches. Loosely arrange a handful of yarn on one half of the fabric
2 Fold the other half of the fabric over the top and take it to the sewing machine.
2 Fold the other half of the fabric over the top and take it to the sewing machine.
3 Stitch down the middle, then around the four sides – if some threads overhang just leave them for now.
4 Continue stitching all over - up, down, right, left, in circles......

6 Catch any loose ends by folding over the edge and stitching down.

The surface should now be flat
If there are lumps and bumps more stitching is needed
You can also turn it over and stitch from the other side.
