Five Colour Friday

You have probably guessed that I love playing with colour. It is fun to do regardless of the medium that you choose. Sometimes colour will spill over from one craft to another – and often this will form the basis of design.

Today’s colourscheme began with paper play. I was painting pages for my Nine Patch a Day journal. This features one small ‘collage’ a day made very first thing in the morning while the house is still quiet and asleep. I’ve made early morning practice a habit for longer than I can remember – it is a start to the day I really enjoy. It doesn’t take long, in fact it MUSTN’T take long. I only allow 15 minutes max from start to finish.

Anyway, I digress. I couldn’t avoid choosing the above colours and making a square. Before long…..

Colours used are:

  • Bluebell
  • Pale Rose
  • Buttermilk
  • Lincoln
  • Plum

All colours are Stylecraft Special DK. Amongst other places they are available from Deramores.

Five Colour Friday

There was such a good response to last week’s Five Colour Friday that I’ve decided to give you another! 😉

I have to admit that I have only recently discovered that I like working with Blues! It was a colour I avoided for a number of years, partly, in retrospect, due to the awful blue that we were forced to wear as our school uniform.

That blue was nothing like the ones included here!

Stylecraft Special DK is once again the order of the day and the colours are:

  • Clematis
  • Duck Egg
  • Storm Blue
  • Lobelia
  • Parchment – for the linking colour too. Such a useful colour.

This blanket took one ball of the first four colours and 3 of parchment. As usual they were purchased from Deramores.

This collection is related to the Spirit of January Blanket that is currently under construction. Last year I found that these ‘Spirit’ blankets were inspiration for far more than I expected. I’m sure you will see more collections that are similarly inspired.

Five Colour Friday

The first Five Colour Friday for 2018.

Pretty colours that I’ve enjoyed using.

The outer colour is Mocha, a medium shade of warm brown which is a very useful linking colour.

It’s been a while since I used this block and it was fun to return to it.

Once again the colours are Stylecraft Special DK which I purchased from Deramores. I have to admit that they have been waiting in my stash for a little while, I’m glad I decided to use them.

They go so well together I’ve decided to include them in another project so keep your eyes open on the blog – it may not be long before it makes an appearance.

Five Colour Friday

Inspiration pops up when you least expect. The important thing is to keep your eyes open, and constantly take in your surroundings. The inspiration for today’s Five Colour Friday comes from our garden.

It’s been an interesting autumn this year. We didn’t have the flames and bronzes that usually occur, instead the trees and shrubs gave us glorious golds and rusts, stunning, but unexpected. However, finally, one of the shrubs has turned from green and gold to this.

The photograph doesn’t do it justice, but it was enough to set the creative juices flowing.

The thing about inspiration is that the source doesn’t have to be represented in its entirety – or in fact accurately. It inspires something….. and this is what the above inspired:

In contrast to the last collection this is a more gentle autumn colourscheme,

If you want to vary the position of the colours a total of 120 different combinations is possible. They will make a stunning blanket whichever style or stitch you use – maybe a corner to corner, or a ripple blanket. Vary the placement or use in rotation.

These are again from the easily obtainable Stylecraft Special DK range of colours:

Buttermilk, Camel, Vintage Peach, Blush and Pomegranate.

Don’t forget, let me know if you use the combination and use the hashtag #nuvofeltfivecolours  If you make use of it I hope you will let me know either below or on instagram.   You can find all posts in this series via this link.

Five Colour Friday

Today’s Five Colour Friday has a definite Autumnal feel.

Five colours from the Stylecraft Special DK range. They go together very well – with just a little splash of contrast to bring the combination alive.

Together they make a particularly striking blanket.

Lobelia, Citron, Spice, Copper and Tomato

Tomato makes a lovely joining colour. If you want to vary the position of the colours a total of 120 different combinations is possible. They will make a stunning blanket whichever style or stitch you use – maybe a corner to corner, or a ripple blanket. Vary the placement or use in rotation.

Don’t forget, let me know if you use the combination and use the hashtag #nuvofeltfivecolours  If you make use of it I hope you will let me know either below or on instagram.   You can find all posts in this series via this link.

Five Colour Friday

I really enjoyed working with these colours. They remind me of spring – but also have an autumnal feel.

Five colours will enable 120 different blocks to be made if you don’t want to make them all the same. This handy list will help you to do this.

They are pretty striking as a single colourway too

Stylecraft Special DK Aspen, Mustard, Cypress, Shrimp, Cloud Blue,

Five Colour Friday

It’s been a while since the last Five Colour Friday. This wasn’t intentional, but travels made it a little difficult to post. Make sure you read on if you like a bargain.

Sometimes a gentle and quiet colour-scheme is all that’s needed.

Five colours for Five Colour Friday!
