Summer is almost done

So lovely to see several new subscribers here. Thank you so much.

I spent some time in Cardiff during July, so my finish rate for that month wasn’t enormous. It was a good month, however, after a shaky start. I didn’t take any crochet with me but had arranged for something to be delivered. A blankie was started there, and is awaiting my next visit for finish.

Three blankets were finished in July though. Please note – all these photos were taken at the moment of finishing and before washing and blocking!

Made from scraps of plain yarn
Made using a variegated yarn
Made using scraps of the previous blanket with added plain colours.

It’s very satisfying to use oddments of yarn, and I continued using others during August.

Made using scraps of 3 different variegated yarns.

This blanket was very satisfying to make. I had just under 300 grams of mixed yarns in total. The colours toned, but I had to consider the layout and joining as I went along to ensure continuity. I think it worked – but the leftovers testify to the closeness of the run.

All ready for the next scrap blanket
This was meant to be bigger – but the yarn was suddenly discontinued. Sadly there’s nothing else like it currently on the market.
I had help with the photography of this one. He was waiting for permission to sleep on it. He didn’t get it 🤭
Another bundle of scraps including plain and variegated yarns.

There’s another blanket currently on the hook but not ready enough to be shown. It’s a 30 square – daily square blanket. Thirty squares will be completed by tomorrow but joining is different again this month – it will join with other squares to make something larger.

It’s been a satisfying month creatively and lots of garden colour to inspire too.

In fact it was difficult to choose a single photo so this will have to suffice.

Thanks for reading this far. If you like anything you see maybe you’d like to leave an encouraging comment?

  1. Your dedication to this beautiful craft brings such joy to witness. The way you transform oddments into something cohesive and meaningful speaks to the very heart of creativity – finding harmony amongst disparate pieces. Your blankets are more than mere coverings; they are expressions of patience and artistry woven together.

The colours from your garden clearly nourish your spirit and inspire your hands. Even when life takes you to Cardiff or presents challenges, you return to your hook with renewed purpose. Your thirty-square project sounds delightfully ambitious.

Please continue sharing these glimpses into your creative world – they truly encourage us all.

    With admiration for your craft,

    Bob

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. It is much appreciated. The 30 square a month project gives me a quiet start to each day. I’m currently on number 43 having had to miss a couple due to illness. It’s a good way to achieve something on a daily basis .. without any real effort. Have a great creative weekend.

  2. Beautiful colors and patterns. What a fun hobby! My flowers have faded and dropped here in Southeastern US so it’s nice to know someone is still enjoying theirs. Btw, my husband and I spent 10 days in Wales on our 10th wedding anniversary and we would love to return. It was gorgeous and peaceful. We loved the coastal area and hiked Pembrokeshire coastal trail.

    1. Thank you for dropping in. Yes, we still have colour in the garden, in fact the Cosmos is flowering more prolifically than during our hot summer!

The coastal walk is beautiful. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Here’s hoping you can make a return visit one day ❤️
