My last post briefly mentioned this completed blanket.
I have to say that it was great fun to make and came together quickly. I had a deadline – and they always seem to make the hook fly faster!
It isn’t an enormous blanket. It’s 42 squares of 5 rounds plus a border in cream which is also the joining and edging colour. It’s made from Stylecraft Special DK in 15 colours. (plus the cream, of course)
- Saffron
- Raspberry
- Empire
- Cypress
- Shrimp
- Dandelion
- Fuchsia Purple
- Aspen
- Bottle
- Blush

- Buttermilk
- Pale Rose
- Turquoise
- Lincoln
- Apricot
Of course these colours were mixed throughout and rearranged until I was happy with the layout.
The reason for the speed was that I had heard about a charity project I wanted to support and their HQ just happened to be in a place I was planning to visit. THE CARIAD BLANKET PROJECT donates blankets to new mums who have had a really difficult time. You can read more about it by clicking any of the pictures in this post, and also by the link above. Maybe you would like to use your skills to give to a new mum. Let me know if you do.
I will make another that isn’t grannies, but they are always such a convenient module when stressed or travelling. I’ve started another; this one is in more gentle colours. I’ll reveal more in a day or two.
I’m also thinking that maybe you would like to be involved but can’t commit to a full blanket. If this idea appeals to you let me know in a comment or via Instagram (see below) I’m thinking ‘donations in multiples of 3 granny squares’.
Let me know what you think.

Love that you are participating in the Cariad blanket project.
I have been donating blankets for years to new mom’s. I also used to donate small blankets which was specifically for stillborn babies. They created a bundle which went to the different hospitals.
Very touching!

Thank you. I’ve been searching for a project for a while. I have donated to various charities for a while, but nothing that really pulled at my heart strings. This does in so many ways. Your blankets will be much loved. Thank you for commenting 😊

I think it’s great to be able to find a project that really appeals to you – those are the ones that work the best. The mix of colours is great. I am always so worried about mixing too many colours but this looks wonderful.
Have the best day !!

Thanks Linda. Yes I’m pleased to have found it. There are few rules with colour now, and it’s fun to play around. I hope you too have a wonderful day xox
