Did the first week of 2020 go as quickly for you as it did for me? Not only was there quite a lot going on here we also had two family birthdays. The temperatures have been relatively mild, and we have had some sunshine to compensate from the earlier grey days of December.
If you’ve been following along you should have one strip of 6 one-colour squares, and one on its own. The latter will be the start of our second strip, and, as one reader has already realised, one-colour squares will border those of five colours which begin today!
Now, firstly I want to remind you that I am working two colour-ways. I decided to do this to demonstrate a little trick on how to make yarn go a little further. I have already worked the first square of both in this sequence to demonstrate. Here, as a reminder are the colour-charts, and the key to the numbers below. Refer to your numbered chart if you are using your own colours
Week 2 Duck Egg Sequence The first number is the colour of the centre. Join each square to the previous one to continue making strips of 6.
- Jan 8: 1/2/3/4/5/5 NB Two rounds of Duck Egg on each multicoloured square
- Jan 9: 3/4/1/2/5/5
- Jan 10: 2/1/4/3/5/5
- Jan 11: 4/3/2/1/5/5
- Jan 12: Single colour square in Duck Egg This completes Strip 2
- Jan 13: Single colour square in Duck Egg. This BEGINS Strip 3
- Jan 14: 4/1/3/2/5/5
All squares are different, And if you follow along there will be no angst about placement of squares at the end. The same is true of the following.
Week 2 Magenta Sequence
- Jan 8: 5/1/2/3/4/5
- Jan 9: 5/3/4/1/2/5
- Jan 10: 5/2/1/4/3/5
- Jan 11: 5/4/3/2/1/5
- Jan 12: Single colour square in Magenta. This completes Strip 2
- Jan 13: Single colour square in Magenta. This BEGINS Strip 3
- Jan 14: 5/4/1/3/2/5
So, here is the first multi-coloured square featuring Duck Egg
And below – the Magenta version.
Can you see the difference? Instead of two rounds of main colour on the edge of the square as in the top picture the Magenta version has a centre and a SINGLE round at the end.
Why?
I always weigh my yarn before I start. The balls were new, in fact from sealed 10 ball packs. The Magenta left a little to be desired. The first ball was 97g, the second 93g and the third 99g! I knew I had enough yarn, but realised that you may not all be in the same position, so the second version was born. The Duck Egg balls were 97g, 101g and 105g!
I’d already had a bit of a giggle at Magenta’s expense
Can you spot the error?
They have a petrol label on the magenta ball – how funny !!!!
I can’t believe that we are already move than one week into 2020 – where did those days go to ?
We have had extremely hot days here – much hotter than normal and even K&M outside of Chicago have said how mild their weather has been compared to normal.
Have the best day xox

A whole bag of 10 with the wrong label! Wouldn’t it be interesting to order the same dyelot etc! I wonder what I’d get 😂😂(won’t risk it ..). I thought you were on the west coast … I’m obviously wrong 😉 Have a great day too.

We are on the east coast of Australia but thankfully nowhere near the fires this time around.

The colour of your Magenta yarn is correct and the labels are wrong!! I’m trying out different possibilities to see if I can include a solid colour around the outside of my project. I’ll keep you posted!

Don’t alter your original plan unless you are really happy to do so. I don’t want you to be disappointed. Maybe follow along with the next one? That will have single colour squares too – but for a different effect. I still can’t believe that I have almost a whole bag of wrongly labelled yarn! Glad I know the colours well. xx

Hello again! I’ve just done a new blog entry with the CAL so far (at the end). You will see why these colours inspired me and you will notice a slight change which lightens them. I’m trying out a few single coloured squares to add to the outside. I’ll do at least three or four to see how I feel about them. They will be all joined in white as that is how I started. Thank you. I’ll sent you a photo when I’ve done a few single colour squares attached to the main! Then I would appreciate your opinion!
